Die ersten Bilder aus dem Game !!!

Kaum eine Modding-Community ist so aktiv wie die von Crysis. Ob Custom Maps oder ganze Total Conversions, die Möglichkeiten der CryEngine 2 sind äußerst vielfältig und liefern wunderschöne Ergebnisse, sofern man bereit ist, sich etwas einzuarbeiten. Für viele Projekte saß der Schreck tief, als so plötzlich ein neues Spiel angekündigt wurde, das als Standalone nicht auf das Hauptspiel angewiesen ist. Natürlich stellte sich die Frage, wie es um den Modding-Support seitens der Entwickler aussieht und ob es generell einen eigenen Sandbox Editor oder das SDK dazu in Planung ist.


Als Logo Crysis Warhead und Logo Crysis Wars veröffentlicht wurden, fand sich auf keiner der beiden DVDs ein Tool fürs Modding. Bei Crysis war der Sandbox2 Editor damals gleich dabei, während das Software Development Kit später nachgereicht wurde. Ob es einfach zu knapp war noch bis zum Release etwas dahingehend auf die Beine zustellen oder andere Gründe den Ausschlag gaben, lässt sich nicht so leicht sagen, macht aber unterm Strich keinen Unterschied. Crytek selbst lässt die Community wissen, dass man mit dem Single- und Multiplayer ein qualitativ hochwertiges Spiel liefern möchte, das die Leute schätzen. Daher richtete man seine Bemühungen vorerst auf das Original.


Kein SDK und kein Editor für das Standalone?

Nein, zum Glück nicht. Im Moment laufen schon die Arbeiten, um beides für Warhead und Crysis Wars anbieten zu können. Man ist sich in Frankfurt vollauf bewusst, dass die Community auf diese Software wartet und bemüht sich daher so bald wie möglich etwas dahingehendes zur Verfügung stellen zu können. Bis dahin hofft man, dass sich alle noch etwas die Zeit im Single- und Multiplayer vertreiben, ehe die Tools veröffentlicht werden. Es ist außerdem vielfach möglich, die ursprünglich für Crysis erstellten Custom Levels in Crysis Wars zu spielen. Hierfür könnt ihr den Automap Downloader nutzen, um euch die schönsten Maps zu holen und auf einem Server zu spielen.

Introduction
We hope that by now you have been able to download the entirety of Crysis Wars and you’ve had a chance to train with your friends on LAN, because now, you are going to be able to play online! Please be sure to read through this entire post before asking questions, as we've tried to make sure that everything is covered and kept simple in this piece of news. If you do have genuine questions though, obviously you can feel free to ask on the forums.

Step by Step Guide
To get YOUR personal trial key to be able to take part in this weekends Free online play, simply CLICK HERE and then follow the instructions listed below.

The process couldn't be easier. Simply go to the URL or click this link. Once on the website you will see the image listed below as "2", click the button that says "Generate Crysis Wars Trial Key" then in a few seconds the page should reload displaying the key you should use in your version of Wars.


If when you have done these steps, something goes wrong, then simply refresh the page, you will probably get a message like the one shown below on the left. If that is the case, then simply click on the "My Account" button at the top of the MyCrysis.com page and go to the bottom of the list in the "miscellaneous" section. You'll see a link saying "My Trial Keys" which is where you're find the key to enter into the game. It will stay saved here all weekend.



Once you've got the key, all you need to do is open up your game, and go to internet game displayed below.



Once you've clicked "Internet game" you will be prompted (as shown in the image below) for your CD Key which you have just retrieved from MyCrysis.com. Enter the key and it's that simple, you'll be able to play Crysis Wars against your friends for free, throughout the whole weekend.


The trial keys will be enabled until Monday December 29th, 9am CET

Multiplayer: Keine Chance für "Einsame Wölfe"

Kooperative Multiplayermodi sind schwer angesagt, aber nicht alle funktionieren, weil die Entwickler die Psychologie der Spieler und wichtige Elemente von Gruppendynamik zu wenig berücksichtigen. Michael Booth von Valve, erfahrener Counter-Striker und einer der Entwickler von Left 4 Dead, berichtete auf der GDC von seinen Erfahrungen.

"Eins fand ich sehr überraschend: Es gibt unheimlich viele Leute, die spielen einen Shooter wie Left 4 Dead fast nur, weil es ihnen Spaß macht, andere zu heilen", erzählte Michael Booth von Valve auf der GDC. Auf der Entwicklerkonferenz berichtete Booth, wie er mit seinem Team dafür gesorgt hat, dass Spieler den Ego-Shooter Left 4 Dead tatsächlich mit anderen spielen - und nicht nur allein, was möglich ist.

Die Gründe dafür sind auch kommerzieller Natur: Zum einen gibt es nach Meinung von Booth immer noch eine Marktlücke für Spiele mit starkem Coop-Modus. Zum anderen verkaufen sich solche Titel dank der Community langfristig. Als Beispiel nennt er Counter-Strike 1.6, das trotz seines Alters immer noch in nennenswerten Stückzahlen über die Ladentheken wandert.

Spieler sollen in Left 4 Dead den Eindruck bekommen, nur im Viererteam gewinnen zu können. "Wir haben bei der Entwicklung immer so gedacht und gehandelt, als ob das ganze Team der Spieler ist. Ein einzelnes Mitglied darf da mal sterben, aber eben nicht alle", erklärt Booth den Ansatz. Dazu gehörte auch das Szenario des Spiels: Wie jeder Filmfan und Kenner etwa von "From Dusk till Down" weiß, sind im Genre Survivalhorror die Rollen klar verteilt und die Teammitglieder müssen eng zusammenarbeiten, wie es eben auch die vier Charaktere in Booths tun: "Wenn da Idioten mit antreten, sterben die schnell - wir bestrafen das sehr streng."

Eine besondere Rolle für den Zusammenhalt der Gruppe spielen die Oberbosse. So gibt es etwa einen extrem schnellen Gegnertyp namens "The Hunter": Der kann "einsame Wölfe" - also Spieler, die sich abseits von anderen halten - schnell einholen und soll sie dadurch zurück zur Herde treiben. Auch der Mangel an Munition, in Left 4 Dead teilweise kritisiert, ist laut Booth Absicht: Wenn ein wertvolles Gut nicht ausreichend vorhanden ist, müssen die vier Spieler zum Ausgleich eng zusammenarbeiten.

Als wichtig hat sich laut Booth während der Entwicklung von Left 4 Dead auch herausgestellt, dass Spieler es toll finden, anderen zu helfen und so in die Rolle des Helden zu kommen - etwa, wenn sie einem schwer angeschlagenen Kumpel per Medipack helfen. "Es gibt Momente, da spielt man mit Unbekannten im Internet und einer von ihnen hilft einem. Da merkt man: Hey, der Typ ist okay", erzählte Booth.

Wichtig ist auch, dass das Programm den Spielern Phasen der Hochspannung und der Entspannung bietet. Letztere sollten um die 30 bis 35 Sekunden dauern, weil sie sich solange nicht langweilig anfühlen, sondern das Team zusammenschweißen. In Left 4 Dead kontrolliert ein System im Hintergrund, ob die Spieler ein wenig Ruhe gebrauchen könnten. Dazu prüft es anhand der Verletzungen der Spieler, wie hoch die "Emotional Intensity" ist; andere Verfahren habe Valve auch ausprobiert, aber das relativ simple Verfahren mit dem Gesundheitszustand hat sich am besten bewährt.

Für die Ausrichtung auf Gruppenerlebnisse gibt es laut Booth noch weitere wichtige Elemente. So brauche ein Spiel wie Left 4 Dead einen Splitscreenmodus, weil Spieler so ihre Freunde am einfachsten in das Programm einführen könnten. Wichtig sei ein Ingame-Abstimmungssystem, damit die Community sich bei Streitfragen selbst regulieren kann. Und: Zufallselemente im Level und in der Gegnerplatzierung seien ebenfalls wichtig, damit erfahrene Spieler möglichst wenig Wissensvorsprung vor Einsteigern haben. (ps)
